Timothy
Is an introduced cool season forage type grass that is native to Europe. Timothy is a short-lived perennial and is widely used in the Northern U.S. and Mountainous West and thrives in deep, fertile, loamy, silty, clayey soils of humid zones.
- Preferred by livestock as a palatable and high quality forage grass
- Short-lived cool-season bunch grass
- Thrives well with less competitive legumes such as alfalfa or Birdsfoot Trefoil
- Effective as a component in filter strip, waterway or other erosion control mix
- Grows in erect culms 20 to 40 in tall
- Commonly used in nesting, brood rearing, and escape cover mixes
- If enough moisture exists, it is adaptable in many types of soils and climates
