Troy Oats are a Forage Oat. They are a medium late maturing variety and is classed as tall in height similar to Moore and Steele. Lodging resistance is good despite its tall stature. Troy's has average oat groat protein content and kernels are white with good test weight. Troy has a mixed reaction to crown rust and is moderately resistant to barley yellow dwarf (BYD) virus. Preliminary test results indicate Troy has better BYD tolerance compared to Settler and is moderately resistant to the newer crown rust races identified in the NC states in 1989. Hull color in Troy is classed as florescent under UV light; however nonflorescent variants of up to 4.0% in Foundation and up to 5% in the Registered and Certified classes have been described by the breeder.
