Star Seed

Red Top is a cool-season grass, that forms a dense turf. Its leaves are narrow and sharp. It has stems that stand from 30 to 40 inches tall.

AREA OF ADAPTATION: Found mostly in the Northeast, Red Top is a drought resistant native that can be grown in a wide variety of soil types. It will grow in clay soils or acid soils.

PLANTING: Seedbeds should be firm and well prepared. Red Top can be planted in either early spring or late summer. Planting depth is 1/4 inch. Red Top grows at a rapid rate after planting and excessive seeding rates are no recommended.

MANAGEMENT: Red Top can be cut for hay but will disappear in field that are grazed or cut often. If the field is left alone, Red Top will persist longer.

PLANTING DATES: March - May, August - September

SEEDING RATE: 1 to 2 PLS lbs. per acre in mixtures | 4 to 5 PLS lbs. per acre if only vairiety

NUMBER OF SEEDS: 4,990,000 per lb.
