Star Seed

Robust spring barley was developed and released by the MN Ag Experiment Station in 1983. It is a selection from the cross “Morex’/Manker. It is a 6-row, smooth awn, white aleurone line that is medium in height and maturity. Robust heads one day later than Larker, two days later than Morex, and three days later than Glenn; however, it heads two days earlier than Bumper. Robust is similar to Morex in height. It has better resistance to lodging than Morex, Larker, and Bumper being about equal to Glenn. Robust has very good kernel plumpness and resembles Morex in most malting characters as well as awn and rachilla hair features. It is resistant to spot blotch and stem rust but is susceptible to loose smut.
